Some apps are free, and others have a price, with the profit being split between the application's creator and the distribution platform. Mobile applications often stand in contrast to desktop applications which are designed to run on desktop computers, and web applications which run in mobile web browsers rather than directly on the mobile device.

In 2009, technology columnist David Pogue stated that smartphones could be nicknamed "app phones" to distinguish them from earlier less-sophisticated smartphones. The term "app", short for "software application", has since become very popular; in 2010, it was listed as "Word of the Year" by the American Dialect Society.

Most mobile devices are sold with several apps bundled as pre-installed software, such as a web browser, email client, calendar, mapping program, and an app for buying music, other media, or more apps. Some pre-installed apps can be removed by an ordinary uninstall process, thus leaving more storage space for desired ones. Where the software does not allow this, some devices can be rooted to eliminate the undesired apps.

Apps that are not preinstalled are usually available through distribution platforms called app stores. They began appearing in 2008 and are typically operated by the owner of the mobile operating system, such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store, and BlackBerry App World. However, there are independent app stores, such as Cydia, GetJar and F-Droid. Some apps are free, while others must be bought. Usually, they are downloaded from the platform to a target device, but sometimes they can be downloaded to laptops or desktop computers. For apps with a price, generally a percentage, 20-30%, goes to the distribution provider (such as iTunes), and the rest goes to the producer of the app. The same app can, therefore, cost a different price depending on the mobile platform.

GSEB 10th board exam POSTPONED 12th class exam are  postponed.

* Important decision of the state government in the wider interest of the students of the state *

 * The State Government has decided to postpone the Std. 10 and Std. 12 Board Examinations which were to be held from 10th May to 8th May in Gujarat, keeping in view the prevailing situation in Corona.

 * The state government has said that the new dates for the exam will be announced on May 15 after reviewing the transition status of Koro.

 * Due to the announcement of these new dates, it has been decided that students will be given at least 15 days to prepare for the exam *.

 * The state government has also taken an important decision that as a result of Corona's prevailing status, students in Std-1 to Std-9 and Std-11 in the state will be given mass promotions this year *.

The voice of the students prevails. Finally, CBSE does the right thing.

The Hon'ble Prime Minister chaired a high-level meeting today to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation. Union Education Minister, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, School and Higher Education Secretaries and other top officials attended the meeting

The Prime Minister reiterated that the well being of the students has to be the top priority for the Government. He also stated that the Centre would keep in mind the best interests of the students and ensure that their health is taken care of at the same time their academic interests are not harmed.

An overview was given on the X and XII board exam to be held from next month. The Board exam for class X and XII conducted by CBSE are scheduled to begin from 4th May, 2021. The pandemic situation in the country is seeing a resurgence of COVID 19 positive cases in many states, with a few states having been affected more than others. In this situation, schools have been shut down in 11 states. Unlike State Boards, CBSE has an all India character, and therefore, it is essential to hold exams simultaneously throughout the country. Looking to the present situation of the pandemic and school closures, and also taking in account the safety and well-being of the students, it is decided as follows:

1. The Board Exams for Class Xith to be held from May 4th to June, 14, 2021 are hereby postponed. These exams will be held hereafter. The situation will be reviewed on 14 June 2021 by the Board, and details will be shared subsequently. A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations,

2. The Board Exams for Class Xth to be held from 4th May to June 14", 2021 are hereby cancelled. The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams.

CBSE postpones class 12th Board exams. Class 10th board exams have been canceled.

At a time when lakhs of students, parents and teachers across India are urging the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Central government to cancel or postpone the CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 due to ririsng COVID-19 cases, it was reported on Wednesday that the CBSE has started preparation to conduct CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 from May 4 in Ajmer region. 

A leading web portal reported that the CBSE has sent the CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exams 2021 question papers and answersheets to nearby bank lockers of the examination centres in Ajmer.

Over 1.13 lakh students had registered for CBSE Class 10 and over 85,770 registered for CBSE Class 12 Board Exams in Ajmer region in 2020. It is to be noted that the CBSE's Ajmer region includes Rajasthan, Gujarat and union territory of Dadar and Nagar Haveli.
